Mary Dourgarian, MD, joins Apple Valley Medical Clinic as first pediatrician
June 24, 2013
Mary Dourgarian, MD, has joined the Apple Valley Medical Clinic, the family medicine practice within the Apple Valley Medical Center, as the clinic’s first pediatrician. She will see patients Mondays and Fridays from 8 am to 2 pm and Wednesdays from 2 pm to 8 pm, starting June 17.
“While our family medicine physicians will continue to treat people of all ages, including infants and children, we recognize that some patients gravitate toward a pediatrician for their children,” said Mike Foley, Apple Valley Medical Clinic administrator. “Dr. Dourgarian has an excellent reputation in this area, and we believe she will add an important element to the continuum of care we offer our clinic patients, whether they are here for preventive care, diagnosis or treatment.”
Prior to joining the Apple Valley Medical Clinic, Dourgarian was a pediatrician in the U.S. Air Force, serving at Lajes Field in the Azores and McClelland Air Force Base in Sacramento, Cal. She also worked part time for Park Nicollet in Minnetonka, Minn.
“Pediatrics chose me,” Dourgarian said. “In medical school, I immediately felt at home with pediatrics. Perhaps it was because I came from a large family. I stayed with pediatrics and never have regretted it. Now, with seven children, it has come in handy.”
Dourgarian received her BA degree from the College of St. Catherine in Minneapolis, Minn., and her MD degree from the Mayo Medical School. She completed her residency at the University of Iowa. She is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and in both pediatric advanced life support and basic life support. Every year for the last six years, Dourgarian has spent a week in Peru as part of a surgical team that repaired cleft lips and palates in children and as part of a mission group providing primary care in Chimbote, an impoverished city north of Lima.
“I am looking forward to caring for the children of this community,” she said. “The doctors at the Apple Valley Medical Center are very supportive of each other and interested in helping each other be the best physicians they can be.”
