If you have regularly used a CPAP device with a nasal-pillows style mask for at least six months, we encourage you to volunteer for this study. You will be asked to use the new CPAP system for one night at the Apple Valley Medical Clinic Sleep Center facility, located at 15100 Galaxie Avenue in Apple Valley. This is a paid opportunity, and volunteerw will receive details when they qualify for this study.

The group was in Peru from Feb. 25 to Mar. 3, working alongside Peruvian health care professionals to treat people near Chimbote as well as within the barrios of a mission started by Father Jack Davis from Devil’s Lake, North Dakota.

Klingberg is not new to medical missions, having attended her first in the Dominican Republic almost 15 years ago. “I receive so much more than I can possibly give,” she said. “There is an energy, a perspective, a camaraderie that forms across socioeconomic differences and cultural barriers. It helps me renew my perspective and my gratitude for the little things we can take for granted in a first world country.”

Life expectancy in Chimbote is 10 years less than in the rest of Peru due to the prolonged health issues including diarrhea, infected wounds and illnesses such as tuberculosis and polio that can be prevented with vaccines. Chimbote, a former thriving fishing village, was hit by economic difficulties that forced men and women to move inland where they live in crowded shacks with no means of support for their families.

LAMA was founded in 2008. It took its first medical/dental team to Chimbote in 2009, where it treated more than 4,000 people who did not have the financial means to see a doctor or dentist. LAMA is part of Friends of Chimbote, which was formed in 1998.

New  rehabilitation center set to open January 16.

Apple Valley, Minn. – January 3, 2012 – A  new Sister Kenny Sports & Physical Therapy Center will open January 16 at the  Apple Valley Medical Center, located at 14655 Galaxie Avenue in Apple Valley. It  replaces Integrated Medical Rehabilitation (IMR), whose contract expired at the  end of 2011.

We are proud to welcome the Sister Kenny  Sports & Physical Therapy Center to our facility,” said Mike Foley,  Administrator and Chief Operating Officer of the Apple Valley Medical Clinic,  one of the other providers at the center. “We know they will offer our patients  and the community high quality rehabilitation services and complement the wide
range of health care services already available at the Apple Valley Medical  Center.”

Ryan Smith will transfer from the  Sister Kenny location in Cottage Grove to become the Apple Valley Site  Coordinator for the new facility. Sister Kenny has also hired a number of  former IMR therapists in order to maintain consistency for patients.
