About the Sleep Center
We sleep a third of our lives. When that sleep is interrupted, it affects our quality of life. The Apple Valley Medical Clinic Sleep Center offers extensive consultation and after care for sleep-related disorders, using a wide variety of techniques including behavioral treatments to help lose weight, oral appliances, continuous positive air pressure (CPAP) devices and ENT consultation when warranted.
The Apple Valley Medical Clinic Sleep Center opened in 2010 under the medical direction of Scott Benson, M.D., a family medicine physician with the Apple Valley Medical Clinic. Working with Dr. Benson is Robert McCoy, RRT, FAARC, and owner of Valleyaire Respiratory Services. He is an expert in the treatment of sleep disorders and the equipment used for this purpose. The St. Paul Lung Clinic, which offers specialty care on the Apple Valley Medical Center campus, also provides consultation to Sleep Center patients.
The physicians at Apple Valley Medical Clinic will help you understand your individual symptoms and their causes. Many times, a simple behavior modification can prepare you for a better night’s sleep. In some cases, however, you might require a sleep test to determine if you have a sleep disorder that needs intervention.
What is a sleep study?
A sleep study consists of spending a night in our sleep lab. Our technician will explain the study and make sure you are comfortable with the procedure. Then, your vital signs and sleep patterns will be monitored so we can collect information important for a diagnosis. The data from your study will be scored and interpreted by a board certified sleep specialist to determine if any therapy is necessary. Your physician will review the study with you and discuss all options available for treatment. We believe education is the first step to effective treatments.
